Dr. Nader Hanna – Surgical Oncologist

Dr. Nader Hanna is one of the most distinguished Egyptian surgeons abroad and a global leader in gastrointestinal and cancer surgery. Born in Egypt and raised partly in Nigeria, he graduated from Ain Shams University (Cairo) and moved to the United States, overcoming early challenges—working in restaurants and as a taxi driver—to fund his advanced training. He went on to earn his PhD and professorship, founded the oncology surgery program in the State of Maryland, and today oversees multi-hospital cancer surgery services while performing highly complex operations that can last up to 18 hours. Despite international acclaim, he regularly returns to Egypt to perform free surgeries for under-resourced patients at the National Cancer Institute and government hospitals in Aswan—quietly, without media attention. He is a role model in medical excellence, humility, and service to his homeland.
